I enjoy being outside and active, enjoying the beauty of God’s creations, particularly on the trails surrounding where I live. I am an ultra-running mom of three, wife to one, and physical therapist to many. I am embarking on a journey to utilize my running for purposes outside of myself. I am praying for God to use my passion for running to further His kingdom, and to positively effect the lives of others. For that reason, I am training to run 100 miles at the Georgia Jewel on September 24, 2016…
The women of the small village of Bassin Caiman in Haiti are industrious…and they have an entrepreneurial spirit born out of necessity. They currently walk to and from a neighboring community (8 hours in one day), carrying a bag of corn to be ground for cooking. They have to do this a couple times in one week. Being gone the better part of a whole day, they cannot perform the normal household duties for which they are typically responsible (the men are out working all day, so pretty much everything else falls on the women). So these women have decided they need their own corn grinder. This would be a game-changer for them in that they would not only save themselves multiple weekly trips, but they would be able to make money providing corn grinding services to members of other villages nearby.
I feel led to use my running to raise money and awareness for these ladies through the organization Haiti H2O. You can follow along on my journey via this blog, as I document how I am preparing myself to participate in this event. I am humbly requesting prayers…for discipline, motivation, a healthy body, and the discernment to hear God’s leading, as well as the obedience to always follow.
“Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.'” -Isaiah 58:6-9
